Hey, new game. A quick-action first person shooter like Urban Terror but with more features and leveling system. I’m testing the 1.0 version at the time of writing this post.
Combat Arms, licensed by Nexon even here in South America, has good ping (!) and playability. Let’s start with the run-down of the game and see what this one has to offer in comparison to others.
The Good
First, the game itself. You start, buy some weapons (or not) with fictitious money, look for a game host (dungeon like) and start fragging on some mode. The respawn time is fixed on three seconds, that’s a very good thing if you like continous action. And the weapons precision is like Battlefield 2, lots of recoil on most weapons, but not as random as in Battlefield. And as I said, the action is fast. That’s what I like on a FPS.
Also, the game is very playable having in account that I’m on South America. I managed to end up first on the table lots of times.
The game modes are the following:
- Capture the Flag (yeah :D)
- Elimination (Team Deathmatch)
- Search and Destroy (Counter Strike)
- One Man Army (Free For All)
All modes are quite fun. I obviously like CTF the most. Even so, Elimination can prove a good challenge.
Then, later on the game you start leveling up, buying weapons and the best feature in my opinion: Mods! You can buy noise suppressors, scopes, extra ammo (this one is my favorite) and other stuff. Also you’ve got a big selection of grenades, with flash bangs, nerve gas, incendiary, and others.
There isn’t too much more to add to that.
The Bad
The game starts to bore you when you want to play something different. You have knifes only mode and pistol only, but it’s still boring because the knife physics are horrible. Then there’s the lag. If someone lags too much he/she will have the advantage. Also, lack of maps (only 6). And sniping isn’t the best thing to do with lag.
Oh, and the weapons are bad designed. How come that the AK-47 has better recoil than the M4A1 and similar power? The site says that the SCAR isn’t that good on power but you use it in normal mode (without the scope) and you can kill with two shots.
Overall
The game is crying for tweaks. And the damn Nexon’s ticket system only lets me send one at a time. I already found a bug and I can’t report it, bleh. Anyway, it’s a really fun game. I liked it and will keep playing a lot. Hope to find some friends from Argentina there.
