News: Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 3rd TV series!

This year’s 21st issue of Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine will announce on Wednesday that a third television anime adaptation of Kôji Kumeta’s Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei manga has been green-lit. Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei will premiere on UHF television stations throughout Japan in July.

Yeah! More Zetsubou is always a win :D Even though I’d still have to see the second season…

News: New Azumanga Daioh edition!

The Yotsuba&! Studio homepage has announced on Monday that a new edition of Kiyohiko Azuma’s Azumanga Daioh! slice-of-life school comedy manga will be published to mark the 10th anniversary of its serialized launch in Japan. The project has been in development for over a year. The studio promises new exclusive artwork for the edition, but does not specify if the new materials are new cover illustrations, new interior artwork, or new manga installments.

Man, I will totally love this. Hope I can restart my fan translation of this one.

The Wire

So, The Wire. An american TV series that no one cared about but it possibly might be one of the best series that came out of that country.
The Wire was produced in Baltimore, Maryland, also called Body More for the high body count. Whats so special about this series? It depicts a very realistic portrayal of the american institutions, how they are composed, and most importantly, what happens inside that institutions. Whether its a school, a police department, a port, or any kind of important institution where politics are involved, there’s always corruption of the system.

The Good

It’s probably what I said just now, and the characters. Most characters have a very individual personality, being the most troubled one, McNulty, the protagonist. I wont comment on the characters since you can find info about them on Wikipedia, but I wanted to mention one of the most special ones: Bubbles. Bubbles was a drug addict, a guy that standed on the verge of the line between good and evil. He always tried once and again to become clean, but later on, found himself back on the drugs once and again. Until an event that changed his life. What event it was? I won’t spoil you, watch the series.

The Bad

Well… there isn’t too much stuff to criticize in this series. Maybe some characters, or some episodes that were extremely slow, some unresolved stuff… but generally, the series is a complete hit. I can also say that the organizations’ portrayal are extremely realistic, and this shows a pessimistic view of the world, but… its real.

Overall

Watch this damn series. It changed my point of view of many things. Watch it. The sooner you do, the better you will understand why I (and thousands of other people) praise it so much.

News: Tales of Symphonia OVA sequel

I think I’m going to report the news even later.

Bandai Namco Games announced on Tuesday that Tales of Symphonia: Tethe’alla Chapter, the new OVA sequel series to the Tales of Symphonia the Animation series, has been green-lit. The announcement was made in Tokyo at Tales of Festival 2008, the first event devoted entirely to the 13-year-old “Tales of” role-playing game franchise and its anime/manga spinoffs. Voice cast members from various incarnations of the franchise appeared at the event to perform skits and announce new releases.

News: Hajime no Ippo TV series, 2009

In the most awesome (and as always, late) news in a long, long, long time, Shonen Magazine announces that there might be a new TV series for Hajime no Ippo, starting January 2009.

The Hajime no Ippo manga is still running, and it’s still pretty good, even thought it IS getting repetitive. But will love to see a new take on this manga, the anime is one of my favourite series.

Tantei Gakuen Q

Tantei Gakuen QThese days I’m watching Tantei Gakuen Q. It’s a so-so detective series with animation by Studio Pierrot. Features some bothersome characters like Kyuu (the protagonist) and Megumi (the protagonist would-be girlfriend). What makes this series stand off other detective series is a rather good paced storyline and some… unusual abilities of the characters. Since I’m not going to do a description of each one, let’s just say that Megumi has a photographic memory that allows her to remember everything in detail; and Ryuu, the handsome guy (strange that he wasn’t taller) that never laughs but solves mysteries quite easily.

The Good

As I said, it’s worth watching because of the story. Also, the continuity is quite particular. Always makes you want to see more episodes, and that’s a very good thing. There are no childish stuff, so the “adult” (young adult) target is also another good point.

The Bad

Oh, most of the characters are quite stupid. I find more likable some of the secondary characters than the main ones. Also, there are lots of stories that might be borrowed from Meitantei Conan, like the island one. And the whole Pluto thing screwed the series, more than helping it. If Ryuu went to the other side, then that would have been a lot better. But this way, only made the series worse, more common.

Overall

Watch it. I liked it, even if it’s not going to the be one of the most awesome series you’ll watch, but it will keep you very entertained.

In other comments, the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni connection is strange, isn’t it?

Kyo no Go no Ni will have a TV series

According to ANN:

The Japanese publisher Kodansha has updated its web page about television and film projects that are linked to the manga, and the page now confirms that Coharu Sakuraba’s Kyo no Go no ni (Kyo no 5 no 2 or Today in Class 5-2) manga is being adapted as a television anime series. The comedy manga follows the “lightly ecchi,” everyday life of fifth grader Ryota Sato, his childhood friend Chika Koizumi, and the rest of their school’s Class 5-2. The manga was already adapted into a four-episode video series in 2006. The television series will premiere in Japan in the fall.

Good news, since I loved the manga and the OVAs. Let’s hope the quality will keep up.

Hire fansubbers to reduce piracy?

Tokyo Anime Center executive producer Masakazu Kubo suggested that hiring “10 fansubbers”, whose translation skills are high compared to professionals, will reduce piracy. He mentioned that English fansubs affect DVD sales “dramatically”, according to ANN.

This one will be focused on Arika’s mother. It will be called “My Otome S.ifl”, probably the most creative title this year. Not. Anyways… it’s too much material for a horrible series like Mai Otome, Mai HiME always will be better.

News: More Gunslinger Girls and Switch (actually, Switch is new)

Mediaworks officially announced that a sequel for Gunslinger Girl animu is in production.
In similar boring news, a Switch OVA also is in production. I have somewhat high hopes for this one.
